From A Pair of Brown Eyes to Fairytale of New York, Shane MacGowan is widely recognised as a poet of modern music and one of the great international songwriters. On Monday 15th January the National Concert Hall plays host to this renowned artist on the occasion of his 60th birthday. This concert as part of the NCH Perspectives Series celebrates the power and poetry of Shane’s work and his singular contribution to Irish music.

Legendary singer and songwriter Brian Kennedy announces a unique evening concert at the ancient Hook lighthouse on the tip of the Hook Peninsula county Wexford.
On Friday evening, February 2nd, 2018 multi-platinum selling singer and songwriter Brian Kennedy will host a unique concert in the ancient lighthouse tower. The chart-topping Belfast born singer with the voice of an angel is known for his ballads and has also represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song contest. Phil Coulter’s upcoming concert in Ballymaloe Grainstore sold out in a flash, so the venue has lured him back for a second performance on Friday 29 December.
The evening will be a ‘Twixmas treat’ - that’s the week between Christmas and New Year’s – or would make an ideal gift tucked under the tree on December 25th.
“Pure Gold” was how a U.S. critic recently described a Phil Coulter show. It struck a chord with the man himself. “It seemed to tick a lot of boxes” said Phil, so he hijacked the title for his new show and album. (more…)

Tune in on Friday from 3 pm for a very special programme, where Rónán Mac Aodha Bhuí will be joined live in the Doirí Beaga studios by Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Gearóid Ó Maonaigh, Nia Ní Bheirn, Manus Lunny, Theresa Kavanagh and Diane Cannon, while Séamus and Méabh Begley will join the fun from RnaG’s Kerry studios in Baile na nGall.
The trad giants will compete for our attention, while listeners can sit back and enjoy the show, which will be chaired as always by the inimitable Rónán Mac Aodha Bhuí.

The competition for the Seán Ó Riada 2017 Gold Medal is now open to entries from metal reed instruments – box, concertina and mouth organ etc.
The winner will be awarded the gold medal, and prize money of €2500, at a gala concert in Cork in January to be broadcast live on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.
The closing date for entries is 29 September 2017.
15 musicians will be shortlisted, and they will be invited to take part in a gala concert on 2 February 2018 in the Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork, where the winner will be chosen. The shortlist will be announced on 1 December.
