SARAH MCQUAID

www.sarahmcquaid.com

Sarah McQuaid lived in Ireland from 1994 until 2007 and now lives in Cornwall. In October she released a striking album that reveals her true American roots. I Won’t Go Home ‘Til Morning, is the long-awaited follow-up to her acclaimed debut album When Two Lovers Meet, and marks a distinct change of focus. Whereas her first album was a feast of Irish music, this is an enchanting celebration of old-time Appalachian folk, with Sarah’s arrangements punctuated by her own fine compositions and a cover of Bobbie Gentry’s classic Ode to Billie Joe. She returned to Trevor Hutchinson’s Marguerite Studios in Dublin, where her debut album had been recorded some ten years previously, to make the new album with Gerry O’Beirne once again in the producer’s seat.

CALLAN BRIDGE

www.crowvalleymusic.com

Re-released by Crow Valley Music, Niall and Cillian Vallely’s highly acclaimed album Callan Bridge was re-released in September. Originally released in 2002, Callan Bridge was widely lauded as one of the most significant traditional albums of recent times. Niall and Cillian Vallely learned their music the old-fashioned way - from their parents Brian and Eithne, who founded the Armagh Pipers’ Club, a group that for over three decades has fostered the revival of traditional music in Ireland’s north. Brian Vallely plays the uilleann pipes and Eithne the fiddle, but Niall instead took up the concertina, an instrument not usually associated with music from Ulster.

KEVIN BURKE - IF THE CAP FIT

www.kevinburke.com

A 30th Anniversary edition of Kevin Burke’s If the Cap Fits is a newly re-mastered and re-packaged CD with a foreword by Earle Hitchner of The Wall Street Journal and Irish Echo at the website www.kevinburke.com. Kevin Burke released this solo debut in 1978 while he was still a member of the Bothy Band. Thus, when the Bothies split up for good the following year, the shock of the blow was lessened by the knowledge that former members of the band would still make music like this. Compass Records, who acquired the rights from Mulligan records, have re-mastered the CD and have also included some additional notes and photographs.
