Peadar Ó Riada ag ceiliúradh míle eagrán dá chlár
Dé hAoine 10 Eanáir, craolfar an míliú heagrán den chlár Cuireadh chun Ceoil le Peadar Ó Riada ar RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta ag 7 pm.
Beidh clár an-speisialta ag Peadar dá chuid éisteoirí agus é i gcuideachta an amhránaí mór le rá, Corcaíoch eile, Seán Ó Sé. Bhí Seán ina bhall den ghrúpa ceoil iomráiteach Ceoltóirí Chualann, a bhunaigh Seán Ó Riada.
Beidh Peadar agus Seán ag caint ar thábhacht an cheoil don spiorad agus don sochaí tré chéile ar an gclár ceiliúrtha speisialta Dé hAoine. Beidh siad ag caitheamh súil siar ar mar a d’fhorbair an ceol Gaelach sa tír seo, agus mar a leath sé thar lear, ábhar iontais agus mórtais do Pheadar. Céard is ceol maith ann? Sin ábhar eile a bheidh faoi chaibidil ag an mbeirt, agus cloisfidh muid rogha ceoil Pheadair freisin ar an gclár, agus cloisfidh muid amhrán leis an laoch Seán Ó Sé.
Thosaigh an tsraith Cuireadh chun Ceoil ag deireadh na seachtóidí, agus ag an am sin bhíodh Peadar ag taisteal go Baile na nGall chun an clár a thaifead gach seachtain. Ní raibh ann ach leathuair an chloig ag an tús, ach d’fhorbair sé de réir a chéile go clár dhá uair an chloig a ndéanann Peadar taifead air ina stiúideo baile gach seachtain anois.
Reáchtálann Peadar an comórtas do Bhonn Óir Seán Ó Riada tríd an gclár gach bliain. I mbliana, is ceoltóirí ar an bhfeadóg mhór agus ar an bhfeadóg stáin a bheidh san iomaíocht sa chraobh i mí Feabhra, agus deis ag duine acu ar an mbonn óir agus €2500.
Craolfar an t-eagrán speisialta den chlár Cuireadh chun Ceoil Dé hAoine 10 Eanáir ó 7 pm – 9 pm ar RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.
Broadcaster and musician Peadar Ó Riada to broadcast 1000th programme
This Friday 10 January, broadcaster, composer and musician Peadar Ó Riada will broadcast the one thousandth episode of his traditional music programme Cuireadh chun Ceoil on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta at 7 pm.
Peadar will be joined by his good friend, legendary singer Seán Ó Sé, for this very special edition of the programme. Seán was a member of Ceoltóirí Chualann, the groundbreaking musical group founded by Peadar’s father Seán Ó Riada.
The celebratory edition of Cuireadh chun Ceoil will feature a wide-ranging discussion on the essence of music, its importance for our spiritual wellbeing, its place within Irish culture, and how traditional Irish music has spread across the world, as well as Peadar’s own choice of music for the night that’s in it.
Cuireadh chun Ceoil started at the end of the seventies, and at that time Peadar used to travel from his home in Cúil Aodha in the Cork Gaeltacht to the RnaG studios in Baile na nGall in Kerry to record it. It started as just half an hour, and grew eventually to its current format of two hours, recorded weekly in Peadar’s home studio. In those pre-internet days, the programme served a vital function in letting people know about new music releases, and promoting the work of traditional musicians, and despite technical limitations, people as far away as Australia managed to get their hands on copies of the programme, and would regularly contact Peadar about it.
The annual Seán Ó Riada Gold Medal competition was established by Peadar Ó Riada in 2010 and has now become an integral part of the programme. The instrument changes each year, and this year flute and whistle players will be competing in the final in February for the coveted medal and €2500 prize money.
The one thousandth episode of Cuireadh chun Ceoil, presented by Peadar Ó Riada, will be broadcast on Friday 10 January at 7 pm on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.
