Three Day Threshold’s founding member, Kier Byrnes, has had some diverse gigs over the years.  He’s performed at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, at the Master Distiller (and great grandson) of Jim Beam’s house for a private show, a military base on the Iraq border to US troops and even at prison in Holland.  His odd experiences go hand in hand his band’s music, which is also an eclectic combination of gypsy, Americana, Celtic and country rock.

With several albums under his belt, Kier has a history of releasing a traditional Irish song on each of his band’s releases.  This inspired him to go one step further and dedicate an entire album to his favorite Irish rebel songs, barroom anthems and Celtic ballads.  No stranger to Irish music, Kier grew up in southern New Hampshire, not too far away from where Irish music legend, Tommy Makem lived. Kier’s parents, both of Irish decent, indoctrinated Kier with the music of The Dubliners, The Wolfetones and of course, The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem.

In addition to having been on bills with American acts like Zac Brown, Dick Dale, The Avett Brothers and Old Crow Medicine Show, Kier has also shared the stage with many Irish bands such as The Young Dubliners, Black 47 and The Gobshites.  He’s been on TV playing Irish music, appearing on CBS for as the musical guest at the infamous St Patrick’s Day Brunch hosted by Boston politicians and Roast broadcast on CBS TV and been the house band at Ken Casey’s (Dropkick Murphys) and Bobby Orr’s Claddagh Fund Celebrity Golf Tournament.

As he’s done in years past, this March Kier will play 20-30 sets of Irish music at various venues over the course of St Patrick’s Day “season.” Highlights of the schedule include Harpoon Brewery’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival (South Boston, MA), the after-party for the “Ras Na hEireann” Road Race (Somerville, MA), the after-party for the “Running of the Leprechauns 5K/Children’s Hospital Benefit (Medford, MA), an all-day St Patrick’s Day show, March 17th complete with special guests including Irish dancers and a Gaelic pipe and drums column at The Stockyard (Brighton, MA). After that, they close down the house as part of the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Southie after-party at the Lincoln Tavern (South Boston, MA).

There are 14 songs on the CD with an additional 8 bonus tracks available on the Three Day Threshold bandcamp.com webpage. Album highlights include “Johnny MacEldoo” (Track 9) as there are many Irish songs about drinking too much but there is only one song about someone who eats too much. As a side note, “Johnny MacEldoo” is perhaps the fastest, most lyrically challenging song you will ever hear. Track 13, “Cruiskeen Lan” had its unique challenge as well; half the words are in Gaelic, which Kier had to learn in order to sing it.  “Cruiskeen Lan” translates in Gaelic to the “the full jug.”
