Tuam Trad Festival is delighted to be able to announce that the 6th Annual Trad Festival will be taking place from Friday September 18th – Sunday 20th, 2015.
The World famous tin whistle player, Mary Bergin will kick–start the festival on Friday evening when she will officially open the Festival in the Corralea Court Hotel at 7.30pm. Following the launch, a concert will be held in the Ard Rí House Hotel featuring Mary Bergin, who will be supported on the night by a host of guest musicians and tutors from this year’s festival.
The unique once a year event which is now firmly established as amongst one of the best small festivals in Ireland attracting people from all over the world to spend a weekend in Tuam both to play with and to gain expertise from some of the finest musicians in the country. This year’s event will feature workshops and tutors as follows:
Fiddle Masterclass, Oisin MacDiarmada, Sligo. Tin Whistle Masterclass, Mary Bergin, Spiddal. Accordion, Michael Curran, Tyrone. Flute, Neansaí Ní Choisdealbha, Connemara. Banjo, Colm Naughton, Galway. Uilleann Pipes, Neillidh Mulligan, Dublin. Concertina, Mariead Corridan, Kerry. Harp, Aoife Ní Argáin Dublin. Bodhrán, Johnny Ringo McDonagh, Galway. Rang Gaeilge, Rónán Regan, Galway. Sean Nós Dancing, Caoimhe Mulligan, Dublin. Traditional Singing, Matt Keane. Galway.
Workshops will take place on Saturday 19th and students attending can book via email: tuamtradfestival@gmail.com. This year the festival will host two Young Traditional Musicians’ awards at under 16 years and under 23 years details of which can be downloaded from the following website located at www.tuamtradfestival.com. The finals will then be held in Tuam on Saturday 19th during the festival.
This year the festival also will bestow a Hall Of Fame Award which celebrates a life long achievement in Irish Music. And the recipient of the award will be honoured during the festival.
This two day event will also feature: John and Maggie Carty, Oisín MacDiarmada, Mairead Corridan, McGuire Family, Chris Droney, Patsy Hanly, Neillidh Mulligan and family, Gerry Hanley, Dick Hogan, Pat Sweeney, Roisin and Conor Broderick, Ann Kirrane, Michael Curran, Members of Rí Ra Lackagh and Corofin Comhaltas groups among many other renowned local and visiting musicians from all corners of the country.
Also there are concerts, busking competitions, pub sessions, recitals, and a Céilí with The Star of Munster Céilí Band at the Ard Ri Hotel on Saturday night 19th September.
