The 2nd annual New York Trad Fest takes place on October 18th at Connolly’s Club 45. It will feature over 20 of New York’s finest trad players: James Keane, Jerry O’ Sullivan, Dr. Mick Moloney, Brian Conway, Ivon Goff and Patrick Mangan, to name a few. The 1st annual NYTF 2013 was one night and a huge success.

This year it will be 2 nights and the organisers are happy to have the Irish Arts Center to host on Sunday October 19th with 3 very special duets: The Murphy Beds (new Irish/Americana duo), Tony Trischka and Kenny Kosek (bluegrass legends), and two of New York’s best tradsters Eileen Ivers and Joanie Madden.

Saturday the 18th October will begin with a panel discussion led by Dr. Mick Moloney at the NYU Glucksman Ireland house. The Masters of NYtrad is the theme as people discuss the influences that moulded their art. Donie Golden (dance master), Joanie Madden (Cherish the Ladies) and Dylan Foley (2014 Senior All Ireland Fiddle Champ) will be on the panel this year.

On the family front, Ashley MacIsaac and his cousin Wendy are two of Cape Breton’s finest fiddlers while the Isle of Skye–based Campbells of Greepe hold a wealth of Gaelic songs. The Chaisson Family, the MacKenzie Brothers, the MacDonalds of Glenuig, and All Fired Up all perform as families, and then there’s the siblings: the Wrigley Sisters, the Beaton Sisters, and Qristina and Quinn Bachand.

www.RathminesTradfest.com

The inaugural Rathmines Tradfest 2014 took place over four nights from Thursday September 11th to Sunday September 14th and was by any measure a stomping successful session!

It’s tagline of ‘4 great nights in 4 great pubs’ both promised and subsequently delivered the mother of all music bar crawls in this lively and increasingly bohemian south Dublin village. Organizer and participant, Brian O’Meara, commented: “We all had a great few days and such an event was long overdue. Next year promises to be even bigger and the Rathmines Tradfest could establish itself fairly quickly as a prominent fixture in Dublin’s social and cultural calendar.” He added, “The profile of the event was helped by it coinciding with the Guinness Amplify gig series and we had Irish Music Magazine as media sponsor. In addition to that, the goodwill of local businesses and many online events websites was tremendous.”
