Now established as one of the country’s most intimate and also welcoming festivals, Scoil Cheoil na Botha returns to Scotstown, Co. Monaghan from the October 10th–12th for its 8th consecutive year. Featuring a wide range of musical activities including sessions for all levels, workshops, concerts and CD launches, this year’s festival sees a new addition to its programme – ‘Early Years’ music workshops catering for children aged 2–4.
The festival commences on Friday October 10th with the launch of two new traditional albums from local artists: “The Waylaid Man” an album of self–compositions by Michael McCague and Our Dear Dark Mountain with the Sky Over it, a project arising from the PhD research of Sean McElwain.
Friday night will also see the return of by former TG4 lifetime achievement, Danny Meehan to SCNB 2014. Danny will grace us with his huge presence on the night, leading the festival’s opening session in McCague’s pub.
Workshops will run on Saturday October 11th followed by a tutor’s recital. Classes will be held in the following instruments: fiddle, flute, concertina, button accordion, banjo, harp, piano accordion, traditional singing and guitar accompaniment. Tutors confirmed to date include: Jesse Smith (fiddle), James Carty (fiddle), Brain McGrath (banjo), Damien O’Reilly (button accordion), John Blake (guitar accompaniment). Further tutors will be announced in the coming weeks.
