High Kings singer Finbar Clancy has lent his voice to a contest to write an new song, this is part of the Clancy Brothers Festival which will run in Carrick on Suir during the final week of May. Three finalists will be selected from the entries and they will have their song performed at the opening night of the festival which is on Tuesday May 27th.

Entries to the song writing competition can be on CD or via email as MP3. “The competition is about the song and not the singer”, said Finbar. You can elect to have another singer or group record and perform your song, which is a new take on the song contest format. Finbar said “the quality of performance isn’t part of the completion. We will be looking at the melody, composition, originality and lyrics.” There is €1500 in prizes on offer, in the form of recording time with Emeraz.com.
