2013 will be the 10th edition Meitheal Summer School. It will run from July 22nd – 26th in Villiers School, Limerick (ie. Just after the Munster Fleádh). A stellar cohort of tutors is being lined–up. Reaction to Meitheal 2012 was extremely positive and many students highlight the Finale Concert, and the Meitheal Orchestra show with Beoga in the Dome, Cavan being unforgettable experiences.
Many of the award winners have already played at the events for which they were chosen. Laura Callaghan and Tara Howley have performed at Ennis Trad Fest, Richard Delahunty spent a week on the trad music BA programme at UL, while Róisín Broderick has completed the CCE tour of Ireland. Meanwhile, Caolan Power, Fergal Breen, Evan Clune, Sean Faherty and Conor Broderick are preparing for their up and coming 2013 festival gigs. They have been chosen to appear at the Nyah festival in Cavan, the Sligo Feis Ceoil, Féile Chnoc na Gaoithe and also at the Corofin Trad Fest.
The Meitheal team are really delighted with the tutor line–up for next July. The full list of tutors was not available when going to print. The prospect of consideration for a place on Comhaltas’ tour of Ireland later this year is a very exciting aspect of Meitheal for students – as are the other opportunities such RnaG involvement, a scholarship to Blas, solo and group performances at numerous festivals as well as appearances at the Limetree Theatre, Limerick and more.
In addition, some very special elements are planned this year to mark the 10th Meitheal Summer School so watch out for updates in IMM and the Meitheal Facebook page (meitheal1) as they come to hand.
