A new series of concerts featuring some of the best in established and contemporary home–grown music begins in Ards with the launch of The Peninsula Sessions September 12th – 15th, 2012.
On four consecutive nights, the Web Theatre will play host to the new concerts being organised by Ards Borough Council’s events service.
First to perform (Wednesday, September 12th) will be the group whose folk–based music has received standing ovations in some of the biggest concert halls of the world. The Fureys have produced globally-famous hits like When you were sweet sixteen and The Green Fields of France and their recent concerts have been sell–outs in Ards. Juliet Turner, the immensely talented singer/songwriter, will be on stage the following evening (Thursday, September 13th), bringing her beautiful voice, unique lyrics, charm and wit to the second concert. The next evening (Friday, September 14th) will see the ‘first family of folk’ come together to perform. The renowned Sands Family, featuring Anne, Ben, Colum and Tommy, who often perform as solo artists will play and sing together in a rare treat for local audiences. Completing the line–up with the closing concert on Saturday, September 15th is Willie Drennan’s Ulster Scots Band, with a mix of music, stories and song celebrating the Ulster Scots tradition, complete with special guest, John Trotter.
All performances take place at the Web Theatre, Newtownards at 8pm and tickets are available from Ards Tourist Information Centre, Regent Street, Newtownards, Tel: 028 9182 6846.
