2012 is shaping up to be an excellent year for this International Festival celebrating its 26th anniversary. Thousands of people attended the eight day festival in 2011 enjoying artists such as, Paddy Glackin, Donal Lunny, Andy Irvine, Liam O’Maonlaí, The Acoustic Hot House Flowers, John Spillane, L’Angelus and a host of other artists both local and international.
The 2012 organising committee has now been formed and the 26th Festival celebrations are well–advanced. Beginning as a one day event the festival now extends to eight days and nights of music, culture and entertainment. With nearly 200 events it caters for music lovers, families who wish to enjoy the safe child focused childrens programme (5 days) and those who come to soak up the wonderful scenery, friendliness and free outdoor entertainment.
Based in the scenic village of Rostrevor the festival provides outdoor céilís, an open air stage (all day Sundays and Saturday and evenings Monday to Friday), lunch, evening and night time music clubs, art exhibitions, walks, talks and the now legendary Literary Pub Crawl.
Each year the festival bestows two awards, the Hall Of Fame award which celebrates a life long achievement in Irish Music (2011 Paddy Glackin) and a Creative Arts Award (2011 Liam O’Maonlaí) to acknowledge the Arts and Literary Fields. The recipients of the Hall of Fame award 2012 have now been announced. They are, the MacConnell Brothers, Mickey, Cathal, Cormac and Sean and they will receive the award during their festival concert on Friday 27th July. The Creative Arts Award recipient will be announced in the next few weeks.
Also appearing during the festival are, The Sands Family, Seamus Begley, Mick Hanly, Eleanor Shanley, Frankie Lane, Paul Kelly and The Henry Girls (making a welcome return). More artists are being added each day.
