A cultural agreement was signed on March 16th by Mayor Hildegarde Naughton and Provost Fergus Wood cementing the growing relationship between Galway and Stirling. The joint festival, now in its 3rd year will take place in both cities over a two week period from June 1st - 17th, 2012.
The Stirling leg commences on June 1st and will feature concerts, céilís, lectures, exhibitions and sessions. Featured artists will include The Tanahill Weavers, Cappercaille, Johnny Connolly, Johnny Óg Connolly, Meaití Joe Sheamuis, Cormac and Breanndán Begley, Anna Falkenau, Ivan Murray, Lena Ullman, Mick Crehan, Seán Ryan, Griogair Laubhrie and the Jake Cogan Band.
Musicians from Scotland will then be heading back to Galway for the following week June 10th–17th. Another packed week of entertainment awaits in Galway with sessions in over 16 venues, concerts, recitals, ceilis, parades and street entertainment. Among the myriad of artists appearing are Johnny ‘Ringo’ McDonagh, Danny O’Mahony, Patsy Broderick, Greg Cotter, Sean Maloney, Liam Lewis, Anne Conroy, Eileen O’Brien, Deirdre MacSharry, The Tulla Céilí Band, Lamont Gillespie, Cormac Cannon and John Blake.
The festival will also feature an exciting array of international artistes including the Museum Folk dancers from Oslo, French Gypsy Band Lazik, the legendary Curtis Blackwell and the Dixie Bluegrass Boys. Curtis was the lead singer in Bill Monroe’s famous ground – breaking bluegrass band. Acts from Stirling include the Kinlochard Céilí Band and the Stirling Pipe Band.
