A host of leading Irish and Ireland based musicians were on hand to launch love:live music presented by Music Network in association with RTÉ Lyric fm. The love:live music movement will take place on the Summer Solstice, Thursday 21st June as part of celebrations for International Music Day - Fête de la Musique. The musicians are urging other professional musicians and music organisations, as well as amateur musicians around the country to occupy a stage and create a free music experience to capture the imagination and showcase Ireland’s diverse music talent.

Féile Ceoil Chill Chartha – The Kilcar Fleadh

The Kilcar Fleadh has now become a much anticipated annual event, attracting more and more people from around the world every year. This year’s Fleadh takes place from Saturday 4th – Saturday 11th August. This week long festival of traditional music features concerts, outdoor sessions, céilí, a crossroads dance, illustrated talks and pub sessions. Workshops in singing, fiddle, accordion, tin whistle, guitar and dancing take place from Monday to Friday. The festival also features a Heritage Day and a walk organised by the Sliabh Liag Hill Walkers.

The Joe Mooney Summer School of Traditional Music, Song and Dance will take place in Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim from July 21st – July 28th. This renowned Summer School, now in its 24th year, will provide a full programme of workshops in traditional instruments-fiddle, flute, banjo, bodhran, whistle, concertina, button accordion, piano accordion, harp, uilleann pipes, mandolin and bouzouki. Traditional accompaniment was successfully added to our programme last year and will be offered again in 2012. Tuition is also available in Set Dancing, Sean Nós Dancing, 2 Hand Dancing, Traditional Singing and Sean Nós Singing.

40ú Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy

The 40th annual Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy will be opened by internationally renowned uilleann piper, Liam O’Flynn, on Saturday, July 7th. The piper has family connections in West Clare and his playing was influenced by the music of Willie Clancy, whom he knew and with whom he played. Liam taught at the summer school in the early years, when the overall numbers were very modest, and the piping classes a fraction of what they are today. He will be returning to a vibrant piping school, with 18 classes for beginners, intermediate and advanced, specialist classes on slow airs, and workshops on reed making and pipe making.

This is part due to the Oland Celtic Irish Music Festival on Oland, an island off the South East coast of Sweden where the royal family have their summer residence. Clareen Traditional Day

The parish of Seir Kieran, Clareen, are imbedded at the foot of the Slieve Bloom mountains in south Offaly. It is a small vibrant parish of under five hundred parishioners and comprising of one hundred and sixty three houses. The involvement of people here in music, dancing, culture and hurling is an example of pure commitment to all that is good in our society. The Traditional Day was set up four years ago to remember the past in story and tradition and make it available to the younger generations, so that our culture will not be lost, but will live on in future generations. It is with this in mind that the committee and many helpers from the parish give major effort into organizing events and making the Traditional Day a day to be remembered in the annual calendar.
