Colm Quearney (aka Q)
A young Colm grew up listening to blues and jazz, which he attributes to his fathers love of music. Colm says he had little interest in becoming a musician until he heard ‘Satisfaction’ by The Rolling Stones. ‘It sounds like a cliché’ he says, but when I heard it I just wanted to find a guitar to replicate as quickly as possible’. Colm has studied double bass at the College of music, played electric bass at the School of Hard Knocks, and in the early 90’s enjoyed a stint in the Ballyfermot Rock School. Q’s latest album ‘Root to the Fruit’ has enjoyed great success since its release in early 2010. Colm will be teaching a song writing masterclass at the NOISE Sounds Music Festival, February 18th 2012!
The Kane Sisters
Irish fiddle-playing sisters Liz and Yvonne Kane hail from Connemara, Galway. Taught music by their grandfather and school teacher, the Kane Sisters have gained national and international notoriety since they toured with critically-acclaimed accordion player Sharon Shannon. Deciding to take their own path musically, their debut album ‘The Well Tempered Bow’ has received rave reviews both nationwide and internationally. When not on tour, Liz and Yvonne teach music. Their latest album ‘Side by Side’, released in 2010, has been met with great reviews. ‘Side by Side’ dwells on the sister’s musical past and their ongoing success in traditional music. The Kane sisters will be performing a trad session at NOISE Sounds Music Festival, February 18th 2012, looking for young musicians with a passion for traditional music to perform with them!
The North Strand Kontra Band
‘The Pogues, Thin Lizzy, Planxty, Frank Zappa’ are just some of the great music acts which inspire the eclectic Klezmer-inspired sound of The North Strand Kontra Band. Experimenting with many different music styles has allowed the band to further their style of music. Their headline slot at The Festival of World Cultures has gained them a lot of praise. Formed in 2005 on the north side of Dublin and playing a wide range of instruments such as the clarinet, trombone, double bass and banjo, The North Strand Kontra Band will be teaching a masterclass at the NOISE Sounds Music Festival, February 18th 2012, and are looking for talented and creative young musicians to perform with them on the mainstage at Áras Chrónáin Irish Cultural Centre on the night of this Festival, definitely an opportunity not to be missed!!
