18th William Kennedy Piping Festival
November 17th –20th, 2011
Lúnasa, Guidewires, The Anxo Lorenzo Band and Dáimh; uilleann pipers, Seán Óg Potts, Ronan Browne and Mick O’Brien; singers Karan Casey and Róisín Elsafty; and musicians from Brittany, Scotland, Galicia, Central France, Greece and the USA – just a taste of whats in store at the 18th William Kennedy Piping Festival which takes place in Armagh from November 17th - 20th, 2011.
Other highlights include a visit from the 40 strong Galician band Lume de Biqueira, and a piping extravaganza entitled Song of the Chanter featuring 45 uilleann pipers celebrating 45 years of the Armagh Pipers Club.
What began as a small gathering of keen aficionados in the Drumsill House Hotel in 1994 has blossomed into one of the biggest and most important events of its kind in the world. Over the past 18 years the festival has not only presented the best of piping from Ireland and Scotland but has also welcomed guests from every corner of Europe and further afield.
This years line-up also includes: Roddy MacLeod (Scotland), Rona Lightfoot (Scotland), Tiarnán Ó Duinnchinn, Laoise Kelly, The Angus Nicolson Trio (Scotland), Siobhán Armstrong, Cillian Vallely, Niall Vallely, Anach, Tyler Duncan (USA), Kevin Rowsome, Denis Brooks, Leo Rickard, Daniel Phillipe & Giles Lehart (Brittany), Louis de Paor, O’Paxaro Tolo (Galicia), Footura (USA/Ireland), Duo Lagrange Rutkowski (France), Conor Mallon, Eamonn Dillon, Donal O’Connor, Peter Browne, Canntaireachd, Gráinne Holland Band, Macha and many more.
There will also be a photography exhibition, festival lecture, sessions and a full programme of workshops.
The festival is generously supported by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Armagh City & District Council, Foras na Gaeilge and Colmcille.
