Musician, singer, producer, curator, twice mercury music prize nominee, winner of BBC R2 Folk awards ‘best album’ and ‘best traditional track’ for 2010, scion of a UK folk royal family, Eliza Carthy is one of the UK’s pre-eminent modern musicians. She is well known for not just her 20 years performing folk, but her numerous innovative boundary-crossing projects and collaborations.

Now comes a new move, based on her view that while folk is a genre worthy of and equal to any other, musicians need no boundaries and deserve no restrictions to what they do as artists. On Eliza’s new album – NEPTUNE in the stars (wants his bloody pound of fish) (release date 9 May 2011) and tour, the 5-piece propose a new style of modern visceral British music, full of that uniquely British blend of wit and surrealism, the light-hearted with the melancholic.
