The Gathering Festival Goes Online

The craic agus ceoil of The Gathering Traditional Festival is being beamed across the world via the web this month. Footage recorded at the 2010 festival can be viewed at www.thegathering.ie

“The atmosphere of The Gathering is second to none and it really has to be seen and heard to be believed,” explains Festival Chairman, John O’Shea.

“We hope that by putting some highlights of 2010 on the web we can show new audiences how fantastic this festival really is and remind all our regular festival goers that The Gathering is the must attend event of 2011.”

The 2011 Gathering Traditional Festival, takes place at The Gleneagle Hotel, Killarney from March 2nd to 6th. The stellar line-up of concerts already confirmed for 2011 include performances by De Danann, Shaskeen, Fidil, The Glacken Brothers, Noel Hill & Tony Linnane, Guidewires, John Carty & Brian Rooney, John & Pip Murphy and many more.

The toe-tapping tunes for the ever popular Gathering Céilís will be provided by Jerry McCarthy, The Copperplate Céilí Band, The Abbey Céilí Band and Johnny Reidy & Swallows Tail. Set-dancing workshops for beginners, advanced and children will take place throughout the weekend and impromptu sessions galore, of the highest caliber, are a given.

Also new for 2011, The Gathering will present a series of Showcase gigs whereby new and established Irish traditional music acts will be afforded the opportunity to perform in front of an audience of festival organisers and bookers from throughout Ireland and Europe.
