U2 AND THE IRELAND FUND ANNOUNCE CHAIR, PROJECT DIRECTOR AND BOARD OF NATIONAL MUSIC EDUCATION PROGRAMME

Details of this major music education scheme were announced at the Ireland Fund’s 35th Anniversary Celebration in New York. Dr Tony O’ Dalaigh will Chair the board and Rosaleen Molloy will act as Project Director with responsibility for rolling out the programme nationally.

Dr Tony O Dalaigh is an Arts Consultant and board member of St Patrick’s Festival, the Gaiety School of Acting and the Irish Romanian Cultural Foundation. Rosaleen Molloy has over fifteen years experience working in the field of music education in Ireland and has acted as Project Director of Arts in the Classroom Initiative, Founder/Director of The County Wexford Children’s Choir Programme and County Arts Officer, Wexford County Council.

U2 has provided ?5m to ensure the national rollout of the instrumental and vocal tuition elements by 2016. The Ireland Funds will contribute a further ?2 million. The new management structure, which has been established as a subsidiary company of Music Network will administer the scheme, which will be introduced nationwide on a phased basis over the next five years.

Loretta Brennan, Glucksman, Chair of The American Ireland Fund said at the event: “When we consider funding we look at two key priorities; education and culture. The Music Tuition Programme meets both these criteria and we are delighted to be part of a programme that will extend the reach of the Music Network Scheme nationally.”
