CEOLÁRAS COLEMAN, GURTEEN, CO. SLIGO
In Ceoláras Coleman, Gurteen, Co. Sligo, the ‘Summer Seisiún’ makes a welcome return, commencing on the first week in July. The twice weekly seisiún are held on Wednesday & Saturday nights at 9pm. Ceoltóirí Coleman will again provide the music, song and dancing. As in former years, audience participation is encouraged and facilitated. The atmosphere is cordial and friendly and the interval during the show gives an opportunity for everyone to meet up over a complimentary cup of tea. The performers are both young and mature, all highly talented and a lovely traditional nights entertainment is assured.
The exhibition area and visitor centre in Ceoláras Coleman are open daily Monday to Saturday. The facilities on offer include a twelve minute audio visual presentation, a variety of touch screens with audio facility to learn more of the history of the local music scene and the styles of County Sligo and surrounding counties. The last weekend of August, 27th – 29th sees Ceoláras hosting the Coleman Traditional Festival. This long established event provides concerts, fiddle competitions, a Céilí, and much more – a great musical weekend! Ceoláras Coleman is also a Regional Resource Centre of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann and there is a most interesting archive of music and song. The centre also has an up-to-date recording studio and retail outlet stocking a vast selection of traditional music CD’s, music books, musical instruments and local crafts.
