Rare Traditional Irish Music line-up At Éigse Carlow Arts Festiva

The 2010 Éigse Carlow Arts Festival will display an exciting programme of events spanning ten days and nights from the 11th to the 20th of June 2010.

The festival will feature a dynamic and diverse range of entertainment and arts to suit any individual and traditional irish music fans will not be disappointed.

A rare concert with a combination of exceptionally high quality traditional musicians in a once-off Irish traditional music concert in association with Carlow Folk Club featuring an exciting line up including Derek Hickey (Button Accordion), Angelina Carberry (banjo), Liam Flannigan (fiddle) & Mick Conneely (fiddle & bouzouki) on Saturday 19th June, 9pm at the George Bernard Shaw Theatre, Old Dublin Road, Carlow Tickets €15 / €12

The Tír na nÓg are recognised as one of the most influential song writing and performing duos to have emerged from Ireland and they will be performing Friday 11th June, 9pm at The Tower Live, Dinn Tullow St., Carlow. Tickets €18, €15conc. The unique band Common Tongue are based around new melodies put to traditional songs. The trio interprets Irish standards through a 21st century prism, drawing on aspects of jazz and electronica to help re-contextualize the sean-nós singing which is very much at the core of their music making. They will be performing on Sunday 13th June, 5pm at the St. Laserian’s Cathedral, Old Leighlin, Co. Carlow Tickets €12, €10 conc.

To start the traditional music weekend with a bang, the infamous trad music DJ, Ollie Mullooly will have the floor boards hopping ‘til the small hours! Having started at the Ennis Trad Festival many moons ago the Trad Disco has grown in popularity and will be the highlight of the Éigse festival. If you thought traditional music was boring, drop in to the Trad Disco and be astounded by the madness of a disco of traditional music!

Other events include a Punch and Judy traditional irish music show The Tall Tale of Mr. Punch and the Family Oscars present Anam an Amhráin is a new concept in music and animation with a selection of Ireland’s best known and loved Irish language songs.
