GRADAM CEOIL FOR WEXFORD

Another accolade for Donegal with Fidil’s Aidan O’Donnell, awarded TG4 Gradam Ceoil Young Musician of the Year. From Dunkineely, Co. Donegal, Aidan O’Donnell has been described as one of the finest young Irish musicians at present. He released his critically acclaimed debut album in 2006, with Mayo flute player Kieran Munnelly, called ‘In Safe Hands’, which has been described as ‘a salute to the players who have gone before’ (Matt Molloy, The Chieftains). “Aidan’s incredible technical ability combined with his deep love of the music of his ancestors will see him become one of the most influential Donegal fiddle players of this generation.’ (Siobhán Peoples) This year’s Gradam recipients range over a wide spectrum of talents. 11th Annual Green Tie to settle The Great Celtic Whiskey Debate

The best way to get into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit is to attend Milwaukee Irish Fest’s 11th annual Green Tie event at The Wisconsin Club on Saturday, March 6, 2010. In addition to Irish music and fun, performances by the McMenamin Irish Dancers and live and silent auctions, a new tradition will make its mark at the event: The Great Celtic Whiskey Debate. Green Tie attendees can learn about the wonders of whiskey from the Ambassadors of Jameson and The Glenlivet. The Ambassadors hail from Ireland and Wales and will engage in an enthusiastic and spirited discussion about Irish whiskey vs. scotch whiskey. dedicated Music & Health organisation, is conducting a Music in
Healthcare Settings Training Programme for musicians at St. James’s
Hospital Dublin from 8 – 12 February, 2010. The training programme,
funded by the Leonardo da Vinci – Lifelong Learning fund of the European
Union, was devised to provide musicians from four European countries an
opportunity to acquire the skills and competencies to work in a range of
healthcare environments and an opportunity to develop greater cultural
understanding through music and health across Europe.

STALWARTS OF TRADITIONAL MUSIC HONOURED BY TG4

Connemara-based piper Seán McKiernan  heads the list of recipients of the TG4 Gradam Ceoil 2010 (Traditional Music Awards) announced at a media reception at the headquarters of Na Píobairí Uilleann in Dublin this evening.  Born in Boston of Connemara and Leitrim stock Seán moved to Connemara as a young man and is widely regarded as one of the great masters of the uilleann pipes.
