Trad Music Maestro’s set to reunite at Éigse Carlow Arts Festival 2009
Celebrating 30 years, the 2009 Éigse Carlow Arts Festival will take place between June 13th and 21st. For nine days and nights Carlow town will once again come alive with a vibrant programme of visual art, dance, music, theatre, craft, children’s events and street entertainment.
Music fans should watch this space as some of this years acts are set to be big nationwide attractions. On Saturday 20th June, one of the most anticipated trad reunions will take place in St. Mary’s Church in Carlow featuring legendary artists Dermot Byrne, Steve Cooney and mythical musician Bríd Harper. This is the first time the talented trio will have played together in 22 years, despite a significant cult following. This gig is a surefire sell out and fans are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment.
Multi-talented Donegal musician Tara Connaghan has left her home in the Glenties, Donegal to take on the role of Festival Director at Éigse Carlow Arts Festival 2009 and is bringing a wealth of knowledge and excitement to the line up. The Saw Doctors, having enjoyed a recent revival will play a concert on Thursday 8th June with anticipated audience figures of 650. In addition, Éigse Carlow Arts Festival 2009 will play host to songsmith Ger Wolfe, described by Christy Moore as a man with a voice like a ‘lark from heaven’. Ger Wolfe will host songwriting workshops for budding artists. Other top artists include singer-songwriter Mick Hanly, Pritam Rhythm Group and ‘rock song with substance artist’ Joe Cleere.
