Box player, Sharon Shannon was presented with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at this year’s Meteor Ireland Music Awards which were held in Dublin’s RDS on St. Patrick’s Day. Sharon Shannon joins the ranks of The Dubliners, Clannad and The Pogues as a recipient of this award.
At barely forty, Sharon is the youngest holder of the award to date. She is used to accolades at the Meteors having carried off the top download single in 2008 with her cover version of Steve Earle’s Galway Girl. (Which incidentally was played at the close of Ireland’s historic Rugby Grand slam in Cardiff on March 21st).
Sharon Shannon won’t be resting on her laurels as she embarks on tours of both Ireland and the UK.
