The Fiddler’s Green Festival began 23 years ago as a one day event and now extends to eight days and seven nights of music, culture with craic. With over 100 events the festival caters for music lovers, families who wish to enjoy a safe, child focused festival and those who come to soak up the scenery, the friendliness, ans the free out door music.
Based in the scenic village of Rostrevor, the Festival provides outdoor ceilís, an open air stage, lunch and evening music clubs, art exhibitions, a full children’s programme and even a literacy pub crawl. A wide variety of musical tastes are catered for, folk, traditional, blues, classical.
Each year the Festival bestows two awards, Hall of Fame Award which celebrates life long achievement in Irish Music, (2008 receipt was Mary Black) and The Creative Arts Award to acknowledge achievements in the Art and Literacy feilds, (first receipiant was Poet Laurseate Seamus Heany, while the 2008 award went to Pete Seeger). The recipients of these awards are traditionally named close to the Festivals formal launch in June.
