THE OIREACHTAS FESTIVAL LIVE FROM CORK ON RTÉ RAIDIÓ NA GAELTACHTA
The annual Oireachtas na Samhna festival will take place in Cork from 29 October to 2 November, and RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta will be broadcasting live from Cork to bring listeners the atmosphere on the streets as well as the best in music and song from the festival.
The programme of events for the festival includes stage competitions in storytelling, agallamh beirte and sean-nós dance but is best known for the sean-nós singing competitions which include the most prestigious annual sean-nós prize, Corn Uí Riada. The main competitions will be broadcast live on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta and online at www.rte.ie/rnag. On Thursday the competition for those under 35 will be broadcast from 7.00 p.m., presented by Dara Ó Cinnéide and Beirní Ní Chuinn. The men’s and women’s finals, Comórtas Sean Nós na mBan agus na bhFear, will be live on Friday night from 7.00 p.m., presented by Aogán Ó Muircheartaigh and Áine Uí Laoithe, and the main competition, Corn Uí Riada, will be broadcast from 7.00 p.m. on Saturday and Máirtín Tom Sheáinín Mac Donncha will be presenting.
