With funding from the Arts Council, the Performance and Touring Award was developed by Music Network, the national music development organisation, to assist Irish and Ireland-based musicians in realising performance opportunities. The award is open to musicians and ensembles of all genres that are of Irish nationality or resident in Ireland. Projects eligible for the award include tours, concert series and individual concerts taking place anywhere within the Republic of Ireland. The award is also open to multidisciplinary projects with live music as a key element, and to collaborative projects involving other Irish or visiting international artists.
The total number of concerts funded to date under the scheme is one hundred and twenty two involving ninety eight artists across a range of genres, including traditional, classical, early music, contemporary classical, jazz, folk/world, rock/pop. Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh (fiddle/hardanger fiddle/whistles) and Breanndán Begley (button accordion/melodeon/vocals, were the Traditional Musicians funded in 2007.
The deadlines for applications for the Performance and Touring Award in 2008 are 5pm on Monday 18th February; 5pm on Monday 9th June and 5pm on Monday 6th October.
